Today, New York-based tech house duo Truth x Lies returns to the release radar with their latest single “FTP” (For The People). The journey of "FTP" began in an unexpected locale – Chicago’s O’Hare airport – where Ian Bertles and Ryan Howard of Truth x Lies crossed paths with South African DJ, producer and Context Records label boss, Kyle Watson en route to a joint performance in Austin. After sharing the stage a few months later in the Big Apple, Watson extended an invitation to the duo to contribute to his innovative new label – an offer that resonated deeply with their artistic ethos of pushing musical boundaries and fostering community.
Driven by admiration for Watson’s groundbreaking work, Truth x Lies set out to create something truly special. One transformative night in the studio, amidst discussions of their collective desire to impact the dance music community, “FTP” emerged as a mantra for their collaboration. This sentiment, layered with a sense of unity and generosity, laid the foundational ethos for "FTP." With Ian taking the helm on vocals, "FTP" evolved as a declaration of a community-focused approach to music. With “FTP,” Truth x Lies delivers a pulsating, compelling single that captures the essence of New York's vibrant dance culture and the spirit of its creators.
From Truth x Lies:
“We met Kyle Watson for the first time at O’Hare airport on the way to play a show together in Austin . After playing again a few months later in New York, he asked us for some music for his new label No Context. We're huge fans of Kyle and what he does, so we got to working on some music. One night in the studio we talked about how we love to give back to people and the line ‘for the people, by the people’ just stuck. Ian recorded the vocals and the rest is history. A huge shout out to Kyle for believing in the record!”
“FTP" promises to set dancefloors ablaze, inviting listeners to partake in a collective experience of rhythm and empowerment. Following the success of their “Off The Menu” event series on Memorial Day Weekend and their recently released single, “Heard About Me”, the duo’s "FTP" track stands as a testament to Ttheircreative evolution and dedication to making music that moves and connects people. As summer unfolds, Truth x Lies continues to push the boundaries of what house music can represent: a platform for joy, a medium for expression and a tool for communal bonding. With “FTP” listeners are invited to experience the power of music made by the people, for the people – a true celebration of the communal spirit that defines the best of dance music.
