THE INTERVIEW

CR: Hello Martin, Glad to have you on Canadianravers how are you doing and where are you talking to us from?

LF: Hello, and thank you for having me, Canadianravers! I'm doing well, thank you. I'm currently speaking to you from Muelheim an der Ruhr, Germany. It's a pleasure to be here.

CR: What inspired your latest track 'Veins' and how does it reflect your personal growth as an artist?

LF: Veins is a cooperation with the amazing Los Angeles singer-songwriter B Martin. I've always liked Brendan's singing skills. Veins is a song that you don't get to do every day and I'm particularly proud to have done the song with Brendan. It's a song for eternity. The inspiration behind 'Veins' stems from a deeply personal place. I drew upon experiences of introspection and self-discovery, exploring the intricate emotions that flow through us like veins. The song captures a journey of personal growth, both musically and emotionally. As an artist, I've evolved in my ability to convey raw emotion through my music, and 'Veins' reflects that growth. It's a culmination of my artistic exploration and a reflection of my ongoing journey as a musician.

CR: If you could collaborate with any non-EDM artist, who would it be and why?

LF: If I could collaborate with any non-EDM artist, it would undoubtedly be Taylor Swift. Her songwriting prowess and ability to connect with audiences on a deeply emotional level are unparalleled. Collaborating with Taylor would be a dream come true, as her storytelling abilities would complement my production style beautifully. Together, we could create music that merges the infectious energy of EDM with Taylor's heartfelt lyrics and melodies, resulting in tracks that resonate with listeners on a profound level.

CR: What is the most unexpected source of inspiration you've drawn from outside the music industry?

LF: As a musician, you might find unexpected inspiration in everyday sounds and rhythms around you. Whether it's the rhythmic pattern of raindrops hitting a window, the melodic chirping of birds in the morning, or the ambient noise of a bustling city street, these seemingly ordinary sounds can spark creative ideas and influence your music in surprising ways. Additionally, personal experiences, emotions, and interactions with people from different walks of life can also serve as rich sources of inspiration, shaping the narrative and mood of your compositions in unique ways.

CR: How do you balance staying true to your signature sound while still evolving and experimenting creatively?

LF: Balancing staying true to my signature sound while evolving and experimenting creatively is a delicate dance that I constantly engage in. I believe it's essential to honor the core elements that define my music while also allowing myself the freedom to explore new sonic territories and push boundaries. This balance is achieved through a combination of introspection, experimentation, and collaboration. I stay connected to my roots by infusing my music with the elements that resonate deeply with me, whether it's a distinctive melodic motif or a particular rhythmic groove. At the same time, I'm always open to incorporating fresh ideas and embracing new techniques to keep my sound dynamic and innovative. Collaborating with other artists also provides valuable perspectives and helps me break out of my comfort zone, inspiring me to evolve creatively while maintaining the essence of what makes my music uniquely mine.

CR: How do you engage with your audience during a live set, and what do you believe sets a great DJ performance apart from a good one?

LF: Engaging with my audience during a live set is paramount to me. I strive to create an immersive experience where listeners are not just passive spectators, but active participants in the journey of the music. I achieve this by reading the energy of the crowd, responding to their reactions, and curating a dynamic set that resonates with them on a visceral level. Whether it's through seamless transitions, unexpected track selections, or interactive moments, I aim to forge a deep connection with my audience, fostering a sense of unity and euphoria on the dance floor.

In my view, what sets a great DJ performance apart from a good one is the ability to craft a narrative that transcends mere song selection. It's about curating a sonic journey that takes the audience on an emotional rollercoaster, building tension and release, and ultimately leaving them with a lasting impression. A great DJ knows how to balance technical skill with intuition, seamlessly blending tracks to create a cohesive and unforgettable experience that lingers in the minds and hearts of the audience long after the music stops.

CR: If you were not a producer/DJ what would have been your career choice?

LF: If I hadn't pursued a career as a producer and DJ, I often pondered what my path might have been. Growing up, I had a deep passion for football and aspired to become a professional player. The thrill of competition, the camaraderie with teammates, and the sheer joy of playing the game fueled my dreams on the field. Had circumstances led me down a different road, I could easily envision myself dedicating my life to the sport, whether as a player, coach, or involved in the management side of football. While music ultimately became my calling, I'll always cherish the memories and lessons learned from my time on the pitch, and perhaps in an alternate reality, I'm still chasing goals on the football field.

CR: DJs/ Producers travel with multiples of that one item, what is that item for you?

LF: For me, the essential item I always travel with multiples of is my USB stock loaded with the songs I play. These tiny devices hold not just my music, but also the energy and emotion that I channel into my performances. Having backups of my USBs gives me peace of mind, knowing that I'm prepared for any unexpected technical glitches or last-minute changes.

CR: What do you like to do during your down time other than producing music?

LF: During my downtime, aside from producing music, I enjoy engaging in a variety of activities that help me recharge and find inspiration. One of my favorite pastimes is fishing. There's something incredibly calming and meditative about being out on the water, surrounded by nature, and patiently waiting for that elusive bite. It allows me to clear my mind, reconnect with the natural world, and often sparks creative ideas that find their way into my music.

I'm also an avid reader, and you can often find me immersed in a good book. Whether it's fiction, non-fiction, or biographies, I love exploring different worlds and perspectives through literature. Reading not only expands my knowledge but also stimulates my imagination, influencing my artistic vision in unexpected ways.

Lastly, I cherish spending time with friends. Whether it's grabbing a coffee, going for a hike, or simply hanging out and sharing stories, the camaraderie and laughter we share rejuvenate my spirit and remind me of the importance of human connection amidst the solitary nature of music production. These moments of leisure and connection outside of the studio enrich my life and ultimately enhance my creativity when I return to making music.

CR: Are there any upcoming projects or collaborations you are particularly excited about and would like to share with our readers?

LF: Yes, but first my new song “Stars In The Sky” will be released on Wednesday April 17th, which I'm really looking forward to. After that, new releases continue in quick succession.

I'm beyond excited to share some upcoming projects and collaborations with our readers! Then up, on April 26th, I'll be dropping a track titled 'Pretty Little Things,' a collaboration with the incredible talents of Kovan and Poylux. It's been an incredible journey working with them, and I can't wait for everyone to hear the result of our collaboration.

Following that, mark your calendars for May 10th because I'll be releasing another collaboration titled 'You & I,' this time with the amazing artists Crüpo and Nghtime!. Working with them has been an absolute blast, and I believe this track will be something truly special.

But that's not all! There are more collaborations in the works, but unfortunately, I can't reveal any details just yet. All I can say is that there's a lot of exciting music on the horizon, so stay tuned for updates and be sure to follow along for all the latest news!
