CR: What’s the story behind the EP Golden Sky? Did you have a special moment or vibe in mind when you started making it? And What made you choose the Name for the track as well as the EP?
MF: The first spark of Golden Sky actually happened in London. We were watching the stunning sunset in Canary Wharf after a studio session. We got so much inspiration, and luckily we had our laptop with us so we wrote down the first chords of the tune "Golden Sky." We absolutely love the summer, and we’ve always been fascinated by the sunset. Watching a great sunset is a special vibe!
CR: All four tracks have such a “feel-good” energy each one with different feel. How do you make sure your songs put people in a good mood?
MF: Our main goal with our productions is to make people wanna dance and have an epic time. Each song starts with a sketch which we develop along the way. We’re always looking for that instant vibe, something early on in the tune that triggers a good mood in us. We often test the tune out in the club as well to see reactions and hear the track in a club environment. It’s important for us that each track should say something, whether it’s a beautiful feeling, a cool feeling, or something else. Every track needs to tell a powerful story.
CR: We really loved ‘Never Let Me Go’ out of the four tracks—was there one that felt the most personal or meaningful to you?
MF: Thanks for vibing with ‘Never Let Me Go’! We think all of them have a special place for us. Obviously, Golden Sky was the starting point for the whole EP, so that track feels a bit special. ‘Never Let Me Go’ has received great support, and we’ve even been told by several people that it’s like an Enya track but with House Vibes, and that’s a really cool feedback to receive :-)
CR: As brothers, your creative process is unique. How did working together on this EP challenge or surprise you compared to your previous projects?
MF: We definitely have our different roles when working in the studio, and that is something we’ve experienced helps us speed up the process and gets us more focused on doing the best for the product. Actually, Golden Sky and 101 (Epilogue) were tracks we came up with outdoors, and that’s a unique thing for us. Usually, we’re creating tunes on the road or in studios around the world, but creating tunes outdoors, especially in the sunshine, is an unforgettable vibe. The spark of both those tracks was made during the sunset, which gives the whole atmosphere another awesome dimension to it.
CR: With the rise of streaming platforms and digital music consumption, how has MANYFEW and MANFEW Records adapted to these changes in the industry? Do you feel that these platforms have helped or hindered the growth of emerging artists?
MF: It’s fantastic that it’s possible to consume music wherever you are in the world, and now everyone basically has a music library in their phones, which is amazing. Both as artists and as a label, we are trying to adapt to all the new changes that happen, whether it's creating a playlist or connecting with fans. We feel that some streaming platforms make it easier to connect with fans, and that is something we really appreciate; we can receive messages and connect with the listeners in a cool way. It’s nice that more platforms are leveling up and that it’s a more competitive business nowadays; there are a lot of cool platforms to choose between, and we think that’s great. As an independent artist, we feel that most of the platforms are supporting us as creators, and that is vital for all creators, whether you are starting out or if you’re an established artist.
CR: If you could transmit one message through your music, what would it be?
MF: It would be to spread happiness and enjoy every moment in life!
CR: What does the dancefloor teach you that the studio never can?
MF: The instant reaction you get from a crowd—that feeling tells you everything. It’s so special, and you can never get that in the same way when you’re in the studio. We can tell straight away by reading the crowd if the tune is going to work or not. It’s a special vibe!
CR: Since Halloween is around the corner, what is your plan for the Halloween and what are you guys dressing up as?
MF: We will spend Halloween with a brand new release called ‘The One For Me’ out on our own imprint ManyFew Records. We'll also enjoy a few beers with our friends. We’ve got lots of deadlines with production we’re doing, both for other artists and for the ManyFew project, so there will be lots of fun studio work around those days too. We’ve got a few gigs coming up at Amsterdam Dance Event just before that, so we can’t wait to test out all our new tunes :-)
CR: Finally, looking beyond Golden Sky, where do you see the MANYFEW sound evolving next? Are there new directions or genres you’re excited to explore?
MF: We love to explore new sounds and new stuff. We love to do what we do and can’t wait to continue creating more tunes. We absolutely love to create tracks and make tunes with a bit of a different touch to them as well. There are so many vibes we would like to try in the studio, and sometimes it feels like we don’t have enough time to test all the ideas, lol. We’ll continue to create feel-good tunes which we hope you are going to like as much as we do :-)
