On Saturday, September 7, 2019, I had the opportunity of interviewing the up-and-comers VOLAC at Coda for their Russian Style North America Tour. This was their fourth stop for their tour, each show brings its own crowd and its own vibes, to my surprise it was wonderful to see that much support for the artists with their first tour in North America with multiple Canadian stops. This was also their first debut in Toronto, and it was a sold-out show! the setting was perfect and energy was a nonstop heart pounding beats till the very end. Thank you Get In! PR for the opportunity of interviewing such a young talent, can’t wait to see what they have in store for us next.

Here is a little bit of history on these dynamic duos, they reside from Irkutsk Russia and they have been producing music since they were 15 years old. Their first hit “Drug Dealer” that was released on CUFF in 2014. Since then they have created many tracks such as “Nimble Like Jack” “Like Dis” “No Love” “Funky” under the labels like Simma Black and Night Bass. Some of the artist that they collaborated with Dr. Fresch, Rrotik, and many more. This is another reason to love the duo, even more, they have created a track “We Are Siberia” which is raising funds to save the Siberian Forest. Where they have pledged to plant 1,000,000 trees, it is really amazing what they are doing for their community.

The Interview

CR: Is there a ritual that you guys have going into a show?

At first, they did not understand what I was talking about but after explaining with some example they told me that they just have a couple of beers and relax the nerves before each show.

CR: Growing up what inspired you and how that impacted you as producers?

VOLAC’s inspiration came from house track “Show me love”, which made them fall in love with house music. From then on, they have been experimenting with all types of genres until they created the unique sound that you hear now.

CR: If you can collaborate with one big artist? Who would it be?

VOLAC didn’t have one but multiple artists that they wanted to collaborate with like Chris Lake, Chris Lorenzo, DJ Corrupt, and Bass Boy are some on the list for them to work with.

CR: Since you guys are Russian our followers wanted to know what your favourite vodka is?

VOLAC couldn’t really decide between the three vodka’s they like the most, which is Stolichnaya, Russian Standard, and 5 lakes vodka. They did have this to say “at the end vodka is vodka, it all tastes the same”.

CR: Any message for our followers that are trying to get into this industry?

VOLAC “don’t try to copy each other and be unique. Try to find something new, as everyone is trying to copy each other to make a hit. At the end it doesn’t sound too interesting and believe in what you are doing, do it just for fun and not for money”

This year was the fifth installment of Ever After Music Festival, that brought some major changes to the festival ground and made sure the attendees were happy after last year fiasco. With 32000 attendees traveled from all over to experience 3 magical days with everyone, this festival is now one of the most anticipated festival in June every year. With this year’s ticket pricing going up meant there would be less attendees but ravers that have attended this festival knew that Ever After Music Festival had something big in store for all of them.

This year the Sound Production team made sure the sound was louder and clear so people could dance the night away. They also made sure party went on till 11 pm on Sunday which in previous years got shutdown at 10 pm. The main stage did get a major upgrade with lighting and LCD panels compared to previous year. Ever After Music Festival also hired the same media team that captures artists like Zedd, Snails, NGHTMRE and festivals like Lost Lands which will make people relive these beautiful captured moments forever!. One of the Main concerns this year that we had was how are they going to fix the water station issue, lo and behold they hired a company “Aquaworld” dedicated to providing water to the attendees. Even though there were a lot of similar artists that played previously that didn’t stop anyone going harder than last year. All the artists put a spectacular performance and cant wait for them to come back again.

One thing we loved that this year they truly expanded the second stage for the attendees with amazing view of the stage with vendor at the top of the hill. It was a better turnout for the second stage where people had enough space to dance around or lay on the grass and just enjoy the music. this was major change that was much needed in order for the expansion of the festival.

This festival has also gained attention and recognition as the first North American Festival to allow cannabis. Where festival attendees could bring up to 10 grams of pre-rolled cannabis, and attendees camping could bring 28 grams pre-rolled or loose leaf that can be rolled at the camp site. Ever After Music Festival following the lead of Canada and jumping on the opportunity of allowing cannabis. This allowed attendees to spark one up and enjoy the festivities in a different way.

There were countless meetups happening all over the festival grounds which reminded us that people wait all year to meetup at one place where it makes them happy and enjoy with people they love, These moments are priceless.

From the company that brought some of the most intimate and entertaining shows thrown over a decade. Ozmosis was not going to sit quietly for the new years as they hosted the event at one of the oldest venues in Toronto, The Opera House. At first, everyone was skeptical that the venue is mainly used for Rock shows – people wondered how they were going to pull this off with having such amazing lineup play at a rock venue. I had the opportunity to attend this event and experience what an Ozmozis event was all about. Suffice it to say, they keep true to their motto “Connecting people through music”.

We were largely unaware of the kind of music the artists were playing which allowed us to approach the event under a veil of ignorance – one that allowed the music to speak for itself independent of our prior taste. This was also the event where the founder of Ozmozis, Oz did a debut back to back set with Kris Morton. Kris Morton, A Toronto based artist started his career in 2002 in Whistler, BC and his debut single “Ignition” was released under Outburst Records. The Second artist on the line up was Tim Penner, also a Toronto based artist crafting his own signature rhythm. He started by remixing a lot of tracks and playing a lot of Progressive and Techno Music. The Third Artist a well-known pioneer in the trance industry creating his own genre of music Pure Trance, he goes by the name Solarstone. The Final Act of the night John 00 Fleming, a maestro that has mixed Trance and Progressive House into a unique style now called Underground Dance Music.

We had the privilege of being invited by Oz to check out the event. As many events were happening within the city but this intrigued many ravers because of Ozmosis’ reputation of throwing unique style parties. The lines at the event were small and moving fast as Ozmozis wanted people to enjoy the music rather than waiting in line in the cold. We saw tons of people being courteous to one another and making sure everyone well accommodated. This was the first time the venue had changed the upstairs balcony area to bottle service booths for the people that wanted to enjoy with their group of friends. The night was overall a success when there were still tons of the people on the dance floor until the last track played by John 00 Fleming. This was truly one for the books – a wonderful way for Ozmozis to cap their 10th Year Anniversary. We can’t wait to see who they bring out for 2019.
