REAPER CONCOCTS CATCHY DRUM & BASS FOLLOW-UP SINGLE "CALL MY NAME" ON BASSRUSH RECORDS - OUT NOW

Anonymous producer REAPER has risen to become one of the key breakout stars in the ever-expanding drum & bass scene in America. “CALL MY NAME” sees him getting back to basics on an infectious jump up anthem. The single serves as a direct follow-up to his debut album ‘DISRUPTOR,’ which was released on Bassrush Records last year to critical acclaim.

“CALL MY NAME” is a testament to REAPER's mastery over the drum and bass genre. The catchy vocal hook creates a sense of distinct longing and deep connection. The simplicity of the lyrics amplifies the addictiveness and impact while provoking necessary repeat listens. Evocative melodies and crisp claps lay the foundation before pulse-spiking risers prime listeners for the energetic drops. REAPER escalates the energy to new heights with driving percussive rhythms, floor-filling low-end, and his signature distorted power riffs. The vocals echo through for an infectious and emotive effect that intensifies the impact. In an era of overproduced bass music, “CALL MY NAME” cuts through with impeccable execution and pristine production. Expect this record to be rattling stages all festival season long.

REAPER reflects on the return to his roots stating: "I spent months cultivating new ideas for the REAPER sound palette. The result overcomplicated my process so much that I returned to my roots and wrote this catchy, energetic jump-up record. It's a simple idea, with maybe only 15 tracks in the project. That simplicity made it infectious and stuck with me. Sometimes I try too hard to sound over-impressive, which sucks the soul out of the song. ‘CALL MY NAME’ challenged me to stop overthinking and trust the direction and clarity of my less complicated ideas. K.I.S.S.”

The ever-mysterious REAPER has taken the bass scene by storm, quickly catapulting himself into the upper echelon of drum & bass in North America and beyond. He’s hot off a string of European debut shows, including sold-out nights in Paris and Toulouse. The appearances follow an impressive run that featured sets at EDC Orlando, Countdown, Nocturnal Wonderland, and support for Kayzo on his back-to-back North American tours in 2021 and 2022. Festival season is shaping up strong with upcoming performances at EDC Las Vegas, Forbidden Kingdom, and more to be announced.

Out now via RÜFÜS DU SOL’s Rose Avenue Records

Today, Sydney-raised, Los Angeles-based DJ/producer Cassian delivers his long-awaited remake of Australian legends ICEHOUSE’s beloved song “Great Southern Land.” Wielding his signature melodic house and techno production style, Cassian breathes new life into the track that once rocked all of Australia in the 1980s. Originally released in 1982, ICEHOUSE’s “Great Southern Land” became a staple of Australian pop culture. Following its massive popularity, it received an official release in North America and Europe, bringing the sound of Australian new-wave around the world. After receiving the blessing of ICEHOUSE mastermind Iva Davies, Cassian now gives the track another tour through the airwaves in 2023, this time taking it to some of the biggest stages in the world, such as Coachella, Printworks, and more.

As an Australian, I was born with this song in my blood. I dreamed about making my own version for 10 years before reaching out to see if it was possible. Having full approval from Iva Davies/ICEHOUSE and being involved with the legacy of this song is probably the greatest honor of my career thus far, one that I don’t take lightly.

After I was given the stems, I spent the past year slowly, carefully & respectfully piecing it together. Around 100 versions later I’m proud to present the final, which I even mastered myself. Huge thank you to management, to Simon Moor & of course to Iva and his team for making the impossible possible.”   —Cassian

An accomplished producer, DJ, and mixing engineer, Grammy Award-winning artist Cassian has cemented his name as one of the most versatile talents to emerge from Sydney’s flourishing electronic scene. Cassian became the first artist on RÜFÜS DU SOL’s imprint Rose Avenue in 2018 which led to several more singles on the label and ultimately the release of his debut album, Laps, in 2020. Since then he’s followed up his debut with multiple Beatport-chart-topping releases, such as his remix of Jimi Jules’ “My City’s On Fire” alongside Tale Of Us’s Anyma. A respected and seasoned performer, Cassian has played for tens of thousands while also selling out headline shows at NYC’s Superior Ingredients, commanding festival sets at Coachella, and making an epic homecoming visit to play at Sydney’s historic harbor post-pandemic.

Australian band ICEHOUSE was formed by Iva Davies back in the 1970s (under the name Flowers, although he would soon after change it). The band first got its start by playing pub rock until reaching mainstream success in the 1980s with new-wave and synth-pop. ICEHOUSE would eventually score Top 10 hits in both Europe and the U.S. with “Electric Blue” and “Crazy.” In 2006, ICEHOUSE was inducted into the ARIA (Australian Recording Industry Association) Hall of Fame and remains one of the country’s most treasured bands.

A track that he holds close to his heart, Cassian’s remake of ‘Great Southern Land’ is a love letter to Australia and is sure to be heard across his sets this Summer.

Today Berlin nightlife icon Sven Marquardt has announced his DISTURBING BEAUTY New York Art Week photo exhibition at ArtsDistrict Brooklyn May 18-May 21. In collaboration with New York nightlife impresarios Teksupport, DISTURBING BEAUTY will see the Berlin based photographer exhibit a selection of his first photo works captured in 1980s East Berlin, which will be presented by Galerie Deschler. The opening event on May 18th will see performances from a selection of noteworthy house and techno artists, staged by Teksupport. In cooperation with visual artist Tavy Hornbrook, Marquardt shows on this special evening over 100 visuals as video art and creates a digital experience by letting images and sound flow together.

A pillar of global nightlife culture, Sven Marquardt began his prolific photographic career in East Berlin in the early eighties before taking a brief hiatus after the fall of the Berlin Wall and subsequent explosion of unified Berlin’s club scene. After working as a doorman at the legendary Ostgut club, Sven went on to become the nightlife icon when Berghain opened in 2004 and remains the driving force behind the visual aspect of Berghain's OstGut Ton record label. The worldwide popularity of this unique club has also brought numerous artists and Marquardt’s face as well as his Berlin history to the surface. Inspired by the cultural atmosphere of Berlin, Sven returned to photography in the late 1990s with his exhibitions traveling the world between residencies in Belgrade, Sydney and New York City.

In Sven’s own words, “For more than thirty years, club culture has determined both my life—as a curator of countless nights—and, of course, my life as a photographer. In a city in transition after the wild eighties and the fall of the Berlin Wall, I had for the first time put my camera aside. It was at the end of the 1990s that my camera again became a stylistic device for expressing our attitude towards life. Berlin has always been the setting as well as the inspiration for my pictures and projects.

Since 2010, my exhibition projects have been traveling, and they have occasionally been created in collaboration with musicians. Starting in 2018, residencies followed in Belgrade, Sydney and then, in 2022, in New York City. For me, New York is rough and photogenic = “sexy” 24/7. Club culture is always to some extent “RIOT,” unadjusted and, above all, free.”

DISTURBING BEAUTY will open at the immersive ArtsDistrict Brooklyn, renowned for its state-of-the-art 360 degree projection and world class audiovisual technology, in collaboration with Galerie Deschler Berlin and Teksupport. A variety of visuals designed by artist Tavy Hornbrook will be on display in addition to Sven’s work.

Underground events collective Teksupport, founded by Rob Toma, has hosted some of the most important collisions of club culture, high fashion and technology in recent years. For the past decade, Teksupport has distinguished themselves in the underground for their skillful integration of expert musical curation and innovative production. In recent years, the pioneering event promoters have expanded beyond NYC to throw events across the nation, positioning themselves as the premiere partner for stateside takeovers from global institutions. DISTURBING BEAUTY was made possible in part by Matteo Garzia and Alessandro Brioschi.

The DISTURBING BEAUTY exhibition will be on view from May 18th-May 21st at the Gallery at ArtsDistrict Brooklyn, with hours of 3pm-9pm. The opening event on May 18th will run from 10pm-5am.
