Scary Beautiful — an audiovisual journey with DJ Nastia

Chernobyl.JPG

Scary Beautiful is an audiovisual music project developed by Anastasia Topolska, better known as DJ Nastia. The purpose of Scary Beautiful is to familiarize the audience with overlooked, yet captivating places of our majestic planet, and to introduce new music to the public.

The first season of the project will consist of five 60 minute DJ sets — each filmed in a new and scarily fascinating location (among which, for example, is the famous 'Duga' radar in Chernobyl), where Nastia will play a number of pre-selected unreleased tracks by electronic music producers from all over the world, some of which will later be released as an LP via Nastia’s record label  ‘NECHTO’.

Starting from the 24th of November 2020, one episode will be broadcast every Tuesday on Nastia’s YouTube channel. At 7 pm by Berlin time.

As the world has to adapt to a new pandemic reality, DJ Nastia is looking for new ways of supporting the global music community and exposing fresh and upcoming talents. Scary Beautiful is aimed to not only support new artists but also holds an objective of discovering our world anew and seeing it from a perspective that is so frightfully enchanting.

NURKO REVEALS EMOTIVE NEW SINGLE 'BLINDSPOT' WITH DEVON BALDWIN

OUT NOW VIA PROXIMITY

Highly talented producer and DJ, Jack Leech, known professionally as Nurko, has had a career year in 2020 despite a distinct lack of live gigs. His brand of euphoric dance has seen some serious traction with new fans across the globe, thanks in part to multiple livestream performances via Digital Mirage and Alone Together online music festivals. With his final offerings of the year, Nurko will be releasing ‘Blindspot’ with Devon Baldwin in a multipart series, seeing Part 1 release on December 1st, and Part 2 on December 15th.

‘Blindspot’ sees Nurko work alongside Devon Baldwin, a prolific singer-songwriter, best known for her multiple collaborations with Platinum-selling artists G-Eazy and blackbear. Baldwin’s solo breakthrough came in 2015 with her ‘Lungs’ EP; her track ‘Ocean’ took off on SoundCloud, alongside multiple collaborations with Skizzy Mars and KYLE. A change of pace from Baldwin’s typical productions, Nurko shifts ‘Blindspot’ into an entirely new sonic space, trading melancholic notes for uplifting chord arrangements and synth stabs. Reflecting on past relationships, lyrically the single paints a tumultuous picture of weaknesses colliding with substances and raw, unfiltered emotion.

'‘Blindspot’ is about the changing of a relationship through time. Even though things seem to have gone south, you still feel so deeply for the other and don’t want to lose them. With all of the hardships, they still mean so much to you. We represent this in a 2 part EP. The music varies in intensity, taking you on an emotional journey, but ultimately ending on a happy note’ - Nurko

Nurko has had an enormously productive year, releasing +10 singles/remixes across 12 months, amassing millions of streams in the process. Taking on the likes of ILLENIUM, Gryffin, Seven Lions and more on the remix front, Jack Leech has seen unprecedented success amid an otherwise bleak trip around the sun. Slated to join Dabin on his rescheduled ‘Into The Wild’ in 2021, things are looking up for the rising melodic talent.

Devon Baldwin released ‘Angel Cry’ with Oakland rapper G-Eazy earlier this year, alongside a Bobby Bruderle directed music video. 2019 saw the Bay Area native reveal her ‘Underwater’ EP, rife with sensual vocals and electronic undertones. With 2021 around the corner, fans can expect an array of new productions from the criminally underrated singer-songwriter.

CLOUDNONE & DIRECT REVEAL FULL ‘GUILTY PLEASURES’ EP

OUT NOW VIA MONSTERCAT

CloudNone & Direct have collided once again for their stunning ‘Guilty Pleasures’ EP, out today via Monstercat. Featuring a core theme of late-night maneuvering, the first single from the release, ‘Told U’ was revealed back in October. Now, the full three-track nocturnal journey is available to stream across platforms.

STREAM: CLOUDNONE & DIRECT ‘GUILTY PLEASURES’ EP [MONSTERCAT]

The latest CloudNone and Direct collaboration begins with the EP’s title track, ‘Guilty Pleasures’, a reflective three-minute journey through sound. The audibly melancholic timbre is balanced by the glimmer of hope it elicits through its ruminatively glistening electronic production elements.

Slip’ follows, and kicks off with a mellow, subdued tone, with a hushed, dusky vocal trickling in not too far behind. Meditatively pensive throughout its entirety, the emotive tune sonically evokes deep introspection, in turn leaving the listener in a calm, relaxed haze. Overall, the second track on the ‘Guilty Pleasures’ EP is an atmospherically entrancing opus, rife with a palpable fervor.

Rounding out the 3-track release is ‘Told U’. The nearly four-minute musical endeavor immediately starts with a rising tension that’s built ever-so steadily with each passing second. Rolling basslines, a distorted vocal, and glitchy soundscapes characterize the remainder of the synth-laden, heady offering.

The Guilty Pleasures EP has become the soundtrack to my evenings throughout this year. I often go for a walk by myself at the end of the day and this EP has always been the perfect companion, providing a sense of relief and therapy. Beginning with a bit darker energy and then lightening up with Slip, the flow of this EP always treats me right. Things shift and my mood becomes transcendent with Told U, but all in all, Slip has really been my essential night-time anthem

Guilty Pleasures EP embodies many of the feelings I have missed out on during quarantine: Exploring the city at night, seeing shows, and collaborating with friends. When listening to the EP I feel reminiscent of freedoms I felt and now long for' - Direct

Direct is a trailblazing Ohio-based electronic dance music talent who’s been consistently releasing his own take on the genre since mid-2012. Earlier this March, the musician dropped ‘Mojito / Margarita’, a 2-track collaborative EP released alongside CloudNone, which would go on to receive major support across the board. His latest collaborative work with CloudNone directly follows the creative force’s early November-released remix of Essenger’s ‘Downfall’, which has since gone on to garner well over 63,000 combined streams across platforms. This impressive feat provides an exciting sneak peek into what to expect from the highly-anticipated ‘Guilty Pleasures’ EP, in addition to the overall upward trajectory Direct’s career is on.

CloudNone is a well-established producer and Monstercat mainstay. ‘None Trick Pony’ served as the artist’s debut single on the imprint in early August of 2018, and was quickly followed by his first EP the following month, the 5-track sonic masterpiece ‘Welcome to London’. Renowned Canadian DJ/producer ATTLAS’ recent highly-successful remix of CloudNone’s ‘From Here’ marked a pivotal point in the talent’s new decade thus far, boasting over 500,000 total hits across streaming platforms since its release in early September.
