ULTRA MUSIC FESTIVAL WINS RENOWNED WORLD SUSTAINABILITY AWARD FOR THE SECOND TIME

The festival was handpicked from an international pool of more than 250 applications and 41 origin countries

‘Mission: Home’ Program Additionally Bestowed Four New Statewide Awards For Sustainability — Marking Its Eighteenth Recognition in Six Years

Ultra Music Festival, the Miami institution and World’s Premier Electronic Music Festival, has reaffirmed its position as a global leader in environmental responsibility, taking home the Communications & Stakeholder Engagement award at the 2026 World Sustainability Awards ceremony. Ultra representatives accepted the award in person, closing out an impactful year that also saw the brand and its sustainability program, Mission: Home, earn four new honors from the Florida Festivals & Events Association.

Presented at the World Sustainability Congress in Amsterdam on October 22, 2026, and selected by a panel of 20 judges, the World Sustainability Awards recognize organizations leading the way in sustainable operations, education and innovation across industries worldwide. Ultra was named one of just 11 winners from a pool of more than 250 applicants representing 41 countries. The win places Ultra among global leaders in sustainability, alongside renowned companies such as Sodexo, TELUS, Barilla and HH Global, as well as other shortlisted organizations including Diageo and Universal Music Group.

Adding to the significance of the recognition is the award category itself, which was introduced just this year amid growing expectations for transparency and accountability in sustainability communications. According to the World Sustainability Leaders website, the Communications & Stakeholder Engagement award honors “outstanding campaigns that build trust, drive both internal and external behaviour change, as well as deliver transparent, credible reporting.” Expanding on this, the organization states:

“In an era in which shareholders, consumers and regulators will no longer tolerate greenwashing, evidence-based reporting is critical to building stakeholder trust. This award recognises the vital role of clear and transparent communication in translating corporate integrity into enduring stakeholder confidence.”

The recognition marks another milestone in Ultra’s sustainability journey, following its 2023 World Sustainability Award for Sustainability Team, which honored the extraordinary impact of its then four-woman sustainability team. Since then, both the team and the impact of Ultra’s Mission: Home program have continued to grow, with its environmental education campaigns now reaching more than 9.1 million people online. The team’s unwavering commitment to integrity in its program communications and transparency in reporting makes receiving the first-ever Communications & Stakeholder Engagement Award an especially meaningful achievement for Ultra.

“When our small team won the Sustainability Team Award in 2023 competing alongside multinational companies with far larger sustainability departments, it was an incredible validation of what we had accomplished,” said Vivian Hunter, Director of Sustainability for Ultra Music Festival. “Three years later, this recognition represents something even bigger. Mission: Home is not just about the initiatives we implement, but about the people we’ve inspired, the partnerships we’ve built, and the collective actions we’ve taken together. To have that work recognized on a global stage is an extraordinary honor for our team and the entire Ultra family.”

In tandem with this year’s World Sustainability Award, Mission: Home added four new honors from the Florida Festivals & Events Association (FFEA), bringing its total to nine FFEA awards across four years of recognition. This year, the program took first place in the Sustainability Program category and received a Distinguished Award for Innovation for its groundbreaking zero-onsite-emission RESISTANCE Cove Stage. It also earned second-place honors in the Volunteer Program and Community Outreach Program categories. With a network spanning more than 5,500 events, FFEA recognized 50 winners from a pool of 600 applicants. The statewide honors further solidify Ultra’s position as a leader in sustainable event production, recognizing its positive impact within Florida’s events industry and local communities.

The now-award-winning innovation at the RESISTANCE Cove Stage was made possible through a collaboration with SHOWPOWER, CES Power, and REVERB’s Music Decarbonization Project to power one of Ultra’s more technologically demanding stages with a zero-emission battery system, avoiding approximately 18,740 pounds of CO₂ emissions over the festival weekend. The achievement made Ultra the first major electronic music festival in the U.S. to power a large-scale stage in this way. With RESISTANCE Cove becoming Ultra’s fourth generator-free stage, the majority of the festival’s stages operated without onsite generator emissions in 2026, demonstrating that cleaner energy solutions can meet the demands of world-class live event production and helping to establish a replicable model for the wider event industry.

This year also saw a first-time partnership with Red Bull to pilot a reusable souvenir cup initiative, reducing single-use waste while exploring the feasibility of a larger-scale reusable cup system at the festival. The pilot replaced 4,000 disposable cups, contributing to a cumulative total of more than 3.2 million single-use plastic items avoided from beverage service alone since the inception of Mission: Home.

Mission: Home also broke new records in its waste diversion initiatives, collaborating with longtime partner Clean Vibes to divert more than 114,000 pounds of waste from the landfill, beating its previous record from 2024 by 5,000 pounds. Working with community partners, the teams implemented 10 distinct waste diversion streams through initiatives including food, beverage, wood and supply rescue, composting, and the recycling of materials such as glass, cooking oil, aluminum cans, water bottles, cardboard, and hard-to-recycle soft plastics.

Ultra also partnered with Clean Vibes to introduce a new fan engagement opportunity, the interactive Mission: Home Cleanup Countdown, which encouraged attendees to support its “Leave No Trace” efforts in exchange for exclusive prizes. Additionally, the program continued its partnership with Fandiem to support Lotus House Women’s Shelter, offering fans the chance to win an exclusive trip to Ultra in exchange for donations supporting this meaningful local cause.

Ultra and Mission: Home’s latest honors from the World Sustainability Awards and FFEA bring the program’s total number of third-party awards and recognitions to 18 in just six years, reflecting its continued progress and growing leadership in sustainable event production. In 2025, Ultra earned a place among IQ Magazine’s Green Guardians, which recognizes 20 organizations, events, artists, or suppliers who are driving sustainability in the live entertainment sector annually. Ultra additionally received a prestigious international “Greener Festival” certification from A Greener Future in 2025, and was verified as “the most extensive sustainability program across leading U.S. electronic music festivals” by environmental non-profit Debris Free Oceans in 2022.

Following a milestone year featuring 65 sustainability initiatives and recognition at the state, national, and international levels, Mission: Home will return for its seventh year at Ultra Music Festival, March 26–28, 2027, at Miami’s Bayfront Park. As the program continues to evolve, its mission remains clear: to demonstrate what's possible when environmental responsibility, community action, and innovation become integral parts of world-class festival production, setting an example that extends far beyond the festival grounds.
