The new release follows additional singles ‘Amends’ and ‘Go Back’ that will also feature on the upcoming project.
Rising UK electronic star KDYN, announces the release of ‘Shine’ on EMI records. Recorded and produced by KDYN, the track packs an arousing punch fusing gospel and garage to genre-defying effect; a bold move from an innovator, both in and outside of the studio.
‘Shine’ follows KDYN’s debut single release ‘Amends’ on EMI, which drew praise from Wretch 32 and earned spots on playlists and BBC Radio rotations. Meanwhile ‘Go Back’ has been sealing the approval of tastemaker Sian Eleri on her BBC Radio 1 - Future Artists show as well as rotation from BBC Introducing and Kiss Bliss. All tracks showcase KYDN’s diverse musicality, blending garage, funk, soul, and hip-hop into a distinctive and genre-defying sound.
At just 18, British-Guyanese artist KDYN has already established himself as a dynamic force and a deftly talented producer and multi-instrumentalist. Born into a musical family with roots in UK Garage, KDYN's upbringing immersed him in the vibrant sounds of London's underground scene. Drawing inspiration from a diverse range of influences, from Funkadelic, Prince and Madlib to Lin Manuel Miranda, AMP Fiddler, Kanye West and anything in the realms of UKG, his sound is a testament to his eclectic and continually evolving taste. For latest single ‘Shine’ in particular, KDYN was inspired by Jai Paul and the mysterious sounding vocals he implements as well as drawing inspiration from current tastemakers like SAULT, Cleo Soul and Little Simz.
Explaining the track in further detail KDYN shares, “Shine is a big mix of musical history poured into one, something quite accidentally achieved. It came together through pulling many different sounds together. Electronic music, garage, gospel and soul.”
KDYN’s intention is clear: to create funky edged feel-good anthems, harking back to early 2010s demos with pitched-up samples and dynamic rhythms –a sound of his own fusing to deliver a sonic that’s singularly his own. With his forthcoming EP that will bring his project of singles together next month, 2024 marks a significant milestone for this South London native.
