Jasper Sommer will be sharing a captivating music video for his recently-released single, ‘We Could Rule The World’, which is taken from his new EP, Memento, released on 26 January 2024 via EFG Records Oy. The English musician, record producer, and singer-songwriter has received mainstream publication support from Mixmag, CLASH Magazine, COMPLEX UK and EARMILK, drawing comparisons to the likes of Four Tet and James Blake. In addition, ‘We Could Rule The World’ has received support from notable tastemaker NOTION Magazine and Numéro Magazine, while ‘Memento’ has received radio play from NPR.
Born in Derbyshire, England, and currently based in Hollola, Finland, his father was a huge lover of all music, exposing Jasper to an array of quality sounds from an early age. After picking up his brother's guitar to play Blink 182 songs, he knew he wanted to pursue a life in music. Forming a band at the age of eleven with two close friends, the boys created their own songs and performed covers of Blink 182. Inspired by Zodiac's production on The Weeknd's first EP, he started playing around with GarageBand, his first foray into music production.
‘We Could Rule The World’ is a perfect taster of Jasper Sommer’s genre-bending genius. Intricately produced, the track features unpredictable industrial percussion, dizzying breakbeats, pulsing ambient synthscapes, a tender piano outro and Jasper’s somber vocals moseying through the instrumentation like smoke in a darkened room. The music video, directed by Tildeath Network and shot in downtown LA, is shot in black and white, complementing the dark and moody nature of the song. It shows Jasper wandering about in vast, desolate city-scapes, singing passionately in the midst of a world of visible seclusion.
Jasper shared: “The mood of the song seeks to find strength and triumph whilst contemplating loneliness, I love that Grant was able to bring that feeling to life visually with the use of locations & lighting.”
