“FIGHT OR FLIGHT” OUT NOW VIA FMU RECORDS
Alexandra Sholler - aka Alison Wonderland - has had a whirlwind of a year. Her independent imprint FMU Records welcomed releases from various trap and bass staples including the likes of The Duchess, sumthin sumthin, Fredrick, SIPPY, and many more. She released her acclaimed debut album, GENESIS, under her beloved alias Whyte Fang and took the cutting-edge production and musicality behind the enigmatic project to the stages of Coachella. On top of it all, she welcomed her first child earlier this summer. Following a brief hiatus from the spotlight, Wonderland returns to the release radar with a special treat, her first-ever offering to the FMU Records catalogue. Her latest, “Fight or Flight,” taps NYC-based dance duo MEMBA for an eclectic, future bass-influenced cut. ”Fight or Flight” is out now via FMU Records.
In addition to being the first Alison Wonderland release on FMU Records, “Fight or Flight” doubles as Wonderland’s first official collaboration since she teamed up with SLANDER and Said The Sky on “Picture” in late 2022. The track made a thundering debut on the mainstage at Electric Zoo last weekend, where Wonderland performed for the first time since lighting up the stage at EDC Las Vegas in May. To make her set extra special, she brought out hometown heroes and track collaborators MEMBA to perform the track alongside her.
"Fight or Flight” takes Wonderland’s notorious trap beats and pushes them into an experimental direction with a stylistic switch up consisting of dark melodic rhythms pushed forward by MEMBA’s future bass influence. Ishaan Chaudhary and Will Curry - alias MEMBA - have captivated the local NYC and national electronic scene by storm with their world-influenced sonic exploration of rhythm, contrast, and the unexpected. The duo has landed releases on several revered labels in the dance space, including Lowly, Foreign Family Collective, and Monstercat, as well as garnered continued support from industry tastemakers, such as Spotify’s creamy, Trap Mojito, Nasty Bits, and Bangers. “Fight or Flight” arrives on the heels of their late spring EP, ‘UNI(*)N,’ which saw them collaborate with six different and uniquely influential artists. The duo recently kicked off their 17-date The Inevitable End U.S. tour, which will mark the final run of their esteemed live set before they retire it for good. Tickets and all dates can be found HERE.
Nominated for DJ Mag North America’s “Breakthrough Label of the Year,” FMU Records has allowed Sholler to find creative independence in the industry. Since its launch, she has successfully been able to provide a platform for artists that she deeply admires to release their music on their own terms. Wonderland’s contribution to the label serves as a celebration of its rapid success. Catch Alison Wonderland at Red Rocks on Friday, October 13th, and Whyte Fang at ReelWorks Denver on Thursday, October 12th.
When it comes to making music, Alison Wonderland has always worn her heart on her sleeve. Her songwriting is visceral and raw, creating lines that feel like entries from her own diary and twisting the familiar burns of heartache and hurt into empowering mantras. Her production is as explosive as it is delicate, channeling intricate, uncompromising beat work and blending in the unexpected, like cello breakdowns, amongst swinging trap, bass beats, and dynamic, futuristic soundscapes.
Never one to color in between the lines, Alison Wonderland has done things differently even from the onset of her musical career. In her formative years, she was a cellist with the Sydney Youth Orchestra by day, while moonlighting as a bass guitarist in local bands by night. Making her way around Sydney’s nightlife circuit, she was eventually introduced to DJing and learned the magic of producing and making her own music.
Alison Wonderland the project debuted in 2009 and her ascent since has been uncontainable. She rose up a beacon of Australia’s vibrant electronic music scene, first garnering international recognition for her creative and genre-defying DJing while also carving out her role as a household name producer, starting with remixes for the likes of pop giants like Justin Bieber. Soon after, her talents as a triple-threat producer, singer, and songwriter took center stage when she debuted with her album Run. Her debut album was her first to hit No.1 at the top of Billboard’s Top Dance/Electronic Albums Chart and was also nominated at the ARIA Awards. She then arrived in the US with a bang for her first performance stateside, landing on the stages of the hallowed Coachella. Typically, a Coachella performance is a milestone that takes hopeful artists years and years to reach–for Alison, it was merely a marker of what was yet to come in her new home base in California. Only a few years later, she would go on to make history at the festival when she became the highest female DJ to be billed across all of Coachella’s storied lineups.
Cementing her place as a champion of Australia’s explosive pool of electronic talent and as a beloved headliner on festival billings was just the beginning. Alison Wonderland has also been recognized as Billboard’s Breakout Artist of the Year, the Electronic Music Awards Best New Artist, and received multiple nominations for her records at the ARIA Awards. Named by Billboard as a “prodigious creative” and described by the Faderas as “unexpected and amazing,” it’s clear that Alison Wonderland has created something special.
MEMBA is a producing duo from New York. They cultivate dynamic, world-influenced exploration of rhythm, contrast and the unexpected.
