The London-based creator is back with the destructive new EP ‘HE IS HERE’ on Gud Vibrations.
Shadient makes an impactful return to NGHTMRE and SLANDER’s Gud Vibrations imprint with the gripping ‘HE IS HERE’ EP. The aggressive four-track EP is a violent ride through the dark domains of bass music. The project has already landed early tastemaker support from G Jones, Madeon, NGHTMRE, Montell2099, and JAWNS.
The EP’s lead single “Wake Up (I'm Home)” also serves as the project’s opener. The unassuming introduction pairs a powerful melodic lead with a house-leaning groove. A brazen vocal sample snaps listeners out of their place of comfort and transports them into a world of masterfully controlled chaos. The catastrophic call-and-response is backed with metallic stabs, dark low-end, glitchy synths, and high-powered lasers. Infused with a cinematic flair and commanding builds, “Wake Up (I'm Home)” gives fans a sample of the impending doom.
“TWIINBLADE” possesses an eerie energy that’s dripping with mystique. Like a siren luring in its prey, it draws listeners in close before exploding into a distorted house stomper. Gritty basslines are greeted by sci-fi-inspired synths and driving drums. But that isn’t even its final form. A brief break sees Shadient switching the scene for an even gritter dubstep-meets-trap finale that’s out for blood. It’s unbridled destruction embodied in sonic form. “TWIINBLADE” is a merciless weapon leaving a wake of carnage in its trail.
Drifting deeper into the darkness comes “MIND GAME,” a horror-inspired heater. From the rattling melody simulating sinister laughter to the scream-like synth stabs, this one is nothing short of nightmare-inducing. The first drop is a mind-melting cacophony of industrial accents, brutal bass, and unnerving sound design. The tension-building break offers a spine-tingling rush before bringing listeners back to a two-sided drop that only gets filthier with time. The track’s climax sounds like a robotic monster devouring everything it can find and spitting out the bones as it presses forward.
Shadient strikes an exceptional balance with the project’s closer. “NAUSEA” mixes hints of nu-disco, glitch hop, and dance with the darker, bass-heavy sensibilities found throughout ‘HE IS HERE.’ The track feels like a battle of good and evil with lighthearted vocals and upbeat melodies fighting against jagged drops and filthy bass. The result is an infectious yet challenging work that somehow drifts between pure groove and absolute hysteria.
Shadient primes listeners for what to expect from the EP, stating: “Smashed glass, car crash test footage, and nuclear bomb tests from the cold war—I wanted to make music that really sounded the way those things looked. ‘HE IS HERE’ is defined by a sound that’s visceral, violent, and rough around the edges. It’s an EP filled with absolute weapons; immensely heavy tracks meant to be played out at high volumes.
I took a little bit of a break from electronic music the past few years, taking time to write and release some more introspective pop music. While I enjoyed that, I think it’s good to have some music that sounds like a middle finger. ‘HE IS HERE’ is me returning to electronic music.”
Shadient’s ‘HE IS HERE’ EP is not for the faint of heart. Those looking for experimental electronic music with maximum impact will be enamored with the Londoner’s latest creation.
