Kicking off in April, Parallelle’s ‘A Day In’ series aims to create electronic music with cultural sounds from different countries to highlight ancient musical culture around the world.
French-born Amsterdam-based electronic duo Parallelle have announced a ground-breaking project titled ‘A Day In’. The project will break new ground in the electronic music scene and highlight music creation’s cultural aspect.
The ‘A Day In’ series kicks off on the 27th April and will feature electronic music infused with cultural sounds and field recordings from different countries. The project aims to preserve ancient learnings and cultural heritage for the future while shedding light on foreign cultures, communities, ethnicities, instruments, and rhythms. In total there will be 11 short videos, and some will be accompanied by a musical release on their label, Klassified. The first 2 track release ‘Essaouira’ will be out on the 5th May.
“A Day In’ is a video series where we immerse ourselves in diverse cultures through the power of sound. By traveling through different countries around the world, we encountered several locals, discovered their roots, and their musical backgrounds. Together we go on the quest for sounds that we later translate into music. In doing so, we are showing the viewer and listener the importance of exploration and curiosity. Guiding the audience to feel, experience, and fully grasp a specific culture, landscape, local engagement from a musical perspective.” - Parallelle.
Parallelle’s unique approach to electronic music has garnered them a loyal following, and this project promises to be their most ambitious undertaking yet. The duo’s ability to blend cultural sounds with electronic beats has the potential to create a new sound that’s never been heard before.
The first edition in Essaouira is accompanied by the EP ‘Essaouira’ featuring Maalem Omar Hayat which combines Gnawa music infused with electronic music. Parallelle, Maalem Omar Hayat and his crotales players rehearsed in the middle of Essaouira’s Medina, a sacred place where the synergies were shivering when electronic music met traditional Gnawa’s rhythm and culture. It came about as an initiative from Moga Festival called Moga Creation. After 3 days together, they played live at Moga Festival, a performance forever engraved in many people’s hearts, which has led to the partnership for the first video in the series.
The five videos with Asian destinations; Java, Bangkok, Bengaluru/India, Fiji and Osaka will be in partnership with Marriott Bonvoy Hotels adding another layer to this already exciting project. Marriott Bonvoy’s commitment to cultural preservation and promotion makes them the perfect partner in the Asia-Pacific region for this project. The hotel chain’s influence and reach will enable Parallelle to showcase their music to a global audience.
The ‘A Day In’ project is not just about creating music; it’s about creating an experience. Parallelle’s music transcends borders and has the power to bring people together, and this project aims to do just that. The project will be an immersive experience that takes viewers through different cultures, sounds, and rhythms.
