"Remixing the legendary track "As The Rush Comes" by Motorcycle was a true passion project of mine - since this year is the song’s 20th anniversary, I felt inspired to contribute my spin on it." - Tara Brooks
Genre-blending producer/DJ Tara Brooks is a seasoned dance music artist and historian. Born and raised in Los Angeles, her upbringing in the Southern California rave scene exposed her to sounds from across the country, as well as to legends such as Doc Martin, DJ Dan, and Sasha & John Digweed - a diverse education that’s helped her form a genreless sound and playing style that takes from acid house, electronica, breakbeats, indie, dark disco, and more.
Tara Brooks’ eclectic sensibility has led to a 10-year residency at renowned underground festival Desert Hearts, as well as performance at events and venues around the globe such as Coachella (Indio, CA), Ultra Music Festival and Space (Miami), BPM Festival (Mexico), EDC (Las Vegas), Rainbow Serpent Festival (Australia), Kater Blau and Sisyphos (Berlin), Blue Marlin (Ibiza), The Brooklyn Mirage and Output (New York), Flash (Washington D.C.), Lightning in a Bottle (Central Valley, CA), Stereo (Montreal), Sound (Los Angeles), Public Works (San Francisco), and more.
Today, Tara Brooks is digging into the past again with a remix of Motorcycle’s legendary trance track “As The Rush Comes.” In honor of the song’s 20th anniversary, Brooks felt inspired to remix “As The Rush Comes” and reached out to Dave Dresden (who formed Motorcycle with his duo Gabriel & Dresden and vocalist JES) for the stems, to which he happily obliged. The result of this exchange is a modern take on a vintage dance track, a remix that introduces new context to a song while retaining its vibrant creative spirit.
Filled to the brim with acid basslines, soulful synthpads, and groovy, propulsive drum patterns, Tara Brooks’ “As The Rush Comes” remix upkeeps the original’s trance euphoria through its seamless blending of other dance music aesthetics. The remix kicks off with bouncy, stuttering drum programming underlied by futuristic synth bass and ethereal impacts. It then brings in a thumping four-on-the-floor kick drum with scintillating hi-hats, imbuing the remix with a techno atmosphere as it introduces JES’s vocals.
The song fills out the rest of its mix with emotional synth melodies, acid basslines, and deep brass while easing in and out of the original’s mesmerizing vocal layers - all culminating in a passion project that brings new life to an old song that’s entering its third decade.
The remix should hold over fans as Tara Brooks revs up towards a collaborative EP with renowned producer/mix engineer Hannes Bieger, a remix for Ardalan on Desert Hearts Black, and a full-length album. Brooks will also be performing at the very first Robot Heart residency in San Francisco, a special show following years playing with the collective at Burning Man.
