THIRD CULTURE (SIAN + SACHA ROBOTTI) TEAMS UP WITH CHICAGO'S FINEST HIROKO YAMAMURA FOR "SHE'S EVIL" AND ENLISTS DETROIT'S LEGENDARY DJ MINX FOR REMIX DUTIES

Out Now on Octopus Recordings

Sian and Sacha Robotti - together under their Third Culture moniker - teamed up with powerhouse Hiroko Yamamura for their new single "She's Evil," which also received a remix from the iconic DJ Minx. The track isn't your run-of-the-mill house or techno anthem; it's a funky, playful, and yet down-and-dirty sonic ride, complete with a driving bassline, digitized synths, and distorted vocal riffs. DJ Minx's remix incorporates her signature "wax" sounds with heavier sonic elements, making for two versions of this dark but fun gem. "She's Evil" is bound to be a booty-shaking hit on dance floors around the globe and also exemplifies Third Culture's and Octopus Recordings' commitment to highlighting female talent in the underground music scene. "She's Evil" follows Third Culture's previous successful releases on such labels as Drumcode, Aus Music, Sci+Tec, and Hiroko's singles on Octopus Recordings, Trax Records, Impact Mechanics, Slap Jaxx, and Klectik.

"So, we got this idea going with Hiroko, and I guess we all simultaneously felt like doing a wonky, fun, and experimental dance tune. We wanted something completely different from the current House or Techno trends and more in line with our twisted sense of humor and darker aesthetics but still playful enough to rock a diverse dancefloor. The vocal says it all; it's a meditation on bad attitude throwing shade. Of course, we are all big fans of DJ Minx since way back. She's a legend in Detroit's big musical heritage, and we wanted to showcase that as a US-based label because he has done so much for women in the music industry. Another thing that is important for us is that a lot of our label crew are women working hard behind the scenes, deserving recognition for their work." - Sian of Third Culture/Octopus Recordings

Third Culture
Hailing from diverse backgrounds, Sacha - with his German-Italian heritage, and Sian - with his Irish-Spanish roots, embrace their individual cultural identities while seamlessly blending elements from different musical traditions, which is evident in their collective prior releases on the likes of Drumcode, Aus Music, Sci + Tec, Relied and Stir Von Talent to name a few. Add their own label imprints in Octopus (Sian) and Slothacid (Sacha), and it's clear this creative synergy is the foundation upon which Third Culture thrives. Third Culture's dedication to pushing artistic boundaries is evident in their ever-evolving discography. From early single releases on Octopus, it was no surprise to see their first of two full EPs under the Third Culture moniker be picked up by none other than Solomun for his Dynamic label in late 2022. Such an early co-sign saw support from heavyweights such as Tale of Us, Michael Bibi, Maceo Plex, and Camelphat, to name a few, and prompted Solomun to invite them to make their Third Culture debut, playing before him on his 8000 capacity-sold-out show in Los Angeles before signing a second 4 track EP to the label in March 2023. With a third EP dropping on Maceo Plex's Lone Romantic label in June 2023, it's clear that the duo has exploded out of the blocks with much more to come.

Hiroko Yamamura
Classic Chicago ride-or-die style DJ/producer influenced by The Warehouse, technology, and straight-up techno, it's no wonder she has been named one of Chicago's top 10 DJs by XLR8R magazine. Technology and exploration are at the roots of Hiroko's core. Equally enthralled by the beat and the machines generating them, her sound is an homage to every circuit, resistor, patch cord, and application that brings voice and inspiration to her work. Her gothic and industrial roots are evident in her music, as well as her punk rock DIY drive. Taking inspiration from classic science fiction and dark anime, Hiroko's studio can often be confused for a booth at a comic convention. Currently calling labels such as Trax Records, Impact Mechanics, Slap Jaxx, and Klectik as home, she just recently returned from a long hiatus from music. Her previous projects under the Bio-Booster and as a member of Monologic have not ceased, however they have taken a back seat to a more focused techno vision. As a Midwest rave staple, Hiroko has toured the globe, spreading the sounds of Chicago, including gigs at the famed Detroit Movement Festival as well as regular Berlin and Ibiza shows. Hiroko currently calls clubs such as Spybar and Soundbar home. She actively contributes to jacking Chicago techno with an edge all its own, along with her like-minded colleagues and collaborators, including Heartthrob, Seth Troxler, Hyperactive, Angel Alanis, Kate Simko, and the Submerge.

DJ Minx
A longtime fixture of Detroit's club scene, DJ Minx is often referred to as the First Lady of Wax. Her mix sets, as well as her productions, range from deep and minimal to boisterous and funky, and she's earned respect throughout the techno and house scenes. Active as a DJ since the early '90s, she formed the Women On Wax collective and label and started releasing tracks in the early 2000s, scoring an underground hit with the 2003 minimal house track "A Walk in the Park," which became a hit among minimal techno DJs, and Richie Hawtin re-released it on his M_nus imprint, with remixes by producers like Ricardo Villalobos and Matthew Dear. Minx issued the EP Fuzzy Navel in 2004 and collaborated with fellow Detroit house producer Piranhahead as Animal Trax. Minx's Midnite Bullet EP appeared in 2008, and she made a brief appearance on Andrés' 2009 album II. More than two decades after she began her career in the club scene, DJ Minx finally started receiving recognition as a dance music legend during the 2010s. In 2015, Mixmag named her as one of the 20 women who shaped the history of dance music, and Time Out New York included her in a list of the Top 10 house DJs of all time in 2016. She was awarded the Spirit of Detroit award by the city council in 2018, along with Stacey Hotwaxx Hale, Underground Resistance's Bridgette Banks, and other women who played a major role in Detroit's dance scene. Minx left her job in the Detroit auto industry and pursued music full-time. She released several singles and EPs during the early 2020s, including Violet Groove, which featured an updated version of "A Walk in the Park." Minx came out as a lesbian in 2021, during Pride Month. Soon after, her image was featured in a mural on the side of Detroit's Ruth Ellis Center dedicated to the city's queer community, and her single "Purse First" was released, with proceeds benefiting the LGBTQ+ community center. She also released an EP titled Queendom on London-based HE.SHE.THEY. and shared a split EP with another veteran Detroit producer, Gari Romalis. In 2022, Minx made her first appearance on BBC Radio 1's long-running Essential Mix. Her song "Do It All Night," previously featured on Carl Craig's 2019 mix Detroit Love, Vol. 2, was given a full release on Planet E, with remixes by Craig and Honey Dijon. Minx continued playing at clubs and festivals around the world, and she was asked to curate her own stage at the 2022 edition of Movement. "The Throne" was released by Diplo's Higher Ground imprint in 2023.

KLANGPHONICS RELEASE DEBUT ALBUM ‘PERFECT OPPOSURE’

Out now via the band’s self-titled imprint ‘Klangphonics’, the album release will be accompanied by a headline tour of Europe and North America in 2025.

‘Perfect Opposure’ – the captivating new debut album from three-man German production outfit and internationally celebrated live act Klangphonics – is out now via their self-titled record label Klangphonics.

Marking their most extensive and diverse body of work to date, Klangphonic’s unique blend of modern electronic elements and traditional song-writing sensibilities has paved the way for new tonality in their music, purveying a more delicate, pop-inspired production aesthetic, whilst also retaining the techno and house influences that have made them such a captivating live act. Featuring seven brand new original productions spanning a diverse range of genres and influences, the album also features collaborations with close friends and artists including Anna Metko, BRØR and LUCIE.

Speaking about the release of ‘Perfect Opposure’ Klangphonics commented:

“We started working on this album over a year ago, so it’s a very fulfilling feeling to now finally be able to share it with you all. We collaborated with a lot of friends on this record, and as such it is a culmination of multiple stories and emotions coming together.  We hope that whatever your mood, and how you are feeling, you may find something within the music that resonates”.

Speaking further on the stylistic format of the project, band members Maxl, Ben and Markus continued:

“Perfect Opposure” is intended to be just that. A wide range of genres and emotions traversed in less than 45 minutes. We wanted to try and match the authenticity and imperfections of acoustic recordings, with the impact and force of digital perfection. Balancing all together to try and make a record with the powerful functionality of dance, but a more acoustic-centric listening experience.

After meeting in 2017 studying music in South Germany, Maxl, Ben and Markus are slowly redefining what live electronic music sounds and looks like. Initially a live band, Klangphonics are now becoming an act where the traditional boundaries of band, DJ and producer no longer apply. They have had a very DIY approach to everything, including social media, where they have racked up millions of followers across all major platforms through creative viral marketing. Currently the fastest-growing Techno brand on Social Media (IG: 750k / TikTok: 440k), their promotion and marketing focus is on short-form video content and viral videos, in which they play their own house and techno compositions with acoustic instruments. Following the release of their debut album ‘Perfect Opposure’ and with a major European and first North American headline tour planned for early 2025 (including a new carefully curated AV show lined up), expect to hear and see a lot more from this group over the months and years to come.

SONGWRITER AND PERFORMER HALIENE RELEASES DEBUT OPHELIA EP ‘WATER’

Two-time EDMA “Best Female Artist” winner HALIENE releases her debut EP on Ophelia “Water”. The EP highlights HALIENE’s dynamic and emotion-laden vocals alongside electronic backdrops. Featuring collaborations with Kill The Noise and NURKO, the EP masterfully weaves through melodic bass, dubstep, trance and dance pop.

“This EP, Water, came to me both fast and slow, kind of like the movement of water itself. My first album, Heavenly, was my mission statement, but I wasn’t sure what the next evolution of HALIENE looked like, what the next chapter would say. I was waiting for it to reveal itself to me as I wrote the songs, but nothing came at first. The earliest song I wrote was Memory Of You with Annika Wells back in 2021, and the latest song I wrote was Water in the summer of 2023. While I knew a new body of work was forming, its direction was not clear until I finished Water.

I was on vacation in Canada, feeling incredibly burnt out from music after 3 headlining tours, and one evening I took a bath in a jet tub. As I relaxed in the flowing jets, I heard two tones coming from the motor; Bb and F. The next thing I knew, I was writing a song to the sound of the tub, and the song “Water” was born. Songs frequently just come to me, not always with chords of a musical instrument, sometimes just out of the silence or a dream, but this was the first time I’d ever collaborated musically with a jet tub! There was a haunting and addictive quality to the melody, which we called “pirate lullaby” for a while. We just couldn’t stop singing it.

After Water was fully written, I realized there was a common theme in all the recent songs I’d been writing, and that theme was the element of water. Finally, the truth of the music was revealed to me. This EP dives into themes of duality: light and dark, life and death, creation and destruction, the tension of hope for tomorrow despite the difficulties of the present.

The lyrics of the title track, personify water, committing fate and self to the ultimate higher power represented in a conversational relationship with the ocean. There is love and fear, dependency and autonomy, but ultimately the water, which makes and shapes us, guides us to our inevitable fate.

In Castles in the Sand, I am sharing a personal truth: everyone tells you who they are when you first meet them. This song is my personal experience of realizing I don’t always listen. This relationship was built on a foundation of sand, only to be washed away by the tide. Like a castle made of sand, we invest so much energy and care into creating something we know will only be destroyed, but in this we can still love. We find beauty in the duality of creating order despite knowing that all things will end up in chaos.

Take Your Light helps illuminate the mission of the EP, which is that even when the circumstances around you are difficult and seemingly hopeless, do not let your candle, though dimly burning, get snuffed out.

Hold on and continue through the storm, through the dark. This song gives us permission to feel during the journey. With grief or any difficult emotional thing, I always say the fastest way out is through. If you don’t release those painful feelings, you won’t make it out the other side. It’s okay to feel the way you do, it’s okay to be scared, okay to cry, to scream, but don’t ever let that circumstance and pain take your inner light. I was so grateful to work with both Nurko and Kill the Noise on this EP, two producers I have a huge amount of respect for, and I believe are some of the best in different fields of our genre. They each brought their distinct colors and sound to our collaborations.”

Kelly Sweet (HALIENE)

Emerging from the vibrant realms of trance and melodic dubstep, Grammy-nominated songstress and American performer HALIENE stands as a visionary force, redefining the very essence of an artist in electronic dance music. Crowned as Female Artist of the Year in the 2023 and 2024 EDMAs, she is a unique exception to an industry that principally uplifts male DJ producers. Not only has she dramatically altered the game but she’s paving an inspiring trail for vocalists and live acts in the changing topography of EDM. HALIENE's vocal prowess possesses an unparalleled ability to captivate millions globally, weaving empowering lyrics and heart-wrenching melodies into a tapestry of emotional resonance. Her voice has graced singles alongside dance music giants such as Armin Van Buuren, Illenium, Gareth Emery, Da Tweekaz, Excision, Seven Lions, and many more, consistently dominating charts worldwide. Evolving beyond collaborations, HALIENE has solidified herself as a genre-defying solo artist, seamlessly bridging the gap between poetic lyricism and melodic dance music. Her releases boast millions of streams, crafting some of the most iconic melodies within the dance music landscape. Acclaimed for chart-topping singles and energetic live shows, HALIENE has soared to superstar status within the industry. Her debut album "Heavenly," garnered strong radio support and multiple sold-out stops across her branded solo tours.
