Holy Time: A divine union of Masculine & Feminine energies uniting, out now via his own label Higher Frequency Recordings
First single off his forthcoming EP Heart Beats: The Love Loops Vol.2
DJ, producer and former record shop owner Sky Society welcomes new single and music video for “Holy Time” featuring the hauntingly sensual vocals of Monstercat singer Ehiorobo. “Holy Time” is the first single off of Sky Society’s forthcoming EP "Heart Beats: The Love Loops" Vol.2, which will drop Friday, July 23 via his Higher Frequency Recordings label.
Sky Society is the vessel guided by DJ/producer Juany Santos. "The concept was channeled back in 2013 when I was building the foundation for something bigger than myself. It was an ode to the power of music, past, present & future,” Santos says. The name Sky Society is an ode to Santos’ zodiac sign, Aquarius, and his natural connection to the cosmos and fascination with what goes on in the vast galaxies above us.
"Holy Time'' was conceived by honoring the union of the Divine Masculine & Feminine Energies coming together as one, and is visualized in the ceremonious music video anchored by Ehiorobo’s vocal timbres and inspired by his Nigerian/Dominican/Jamaican-American roots.
“As a Nigerian, Dominican, Jamaican-American, I grew up around my family playing afrobeat, soca, and merengue at family parties,” Ehiorobo explains. “In an effort to elevate the works of artists that represent my heritage, my wardrobe in the music video was contributed by a young Nigerian designer (Taofeek Abijako, ‘Head of State’) who is making a lot of waves in his industry by creating unique pieces that celebrate his cultural background.”
Santos’ intention is felt both in the delivery and fine crafting of the song’s production that breathes influences of electronic, R&B, and soulful dub music. The mending of Ehiorobo’s deep vocal samples over the song’s pulsating bass and minimal sounding synths make space for the delicate percussion, creating an ephemeral sonic journey to embody the Santos’ colored mantra —
“This sacred union within ourselves & with others gives birth to new life, manifesting the experiences that we seek to encounter,” Sky Society says. “Love is Love, share it with the world.”
Sky Society and Ehiorobo have been friends for a while, sharing the stage together and building a deeper connection behind the scenes. The foundation of "Holy Time" and the visual interpretation of the project was something they worked on very closely together, making every decision intentionally along the way. “We wanted the listener and viewer to be able to tap into the frequency of the music and embody the energetic properties it was created from,” Santos says.
“When I heard the instrumental, I immediately connected with the rhythms along with Juany’s verses that seemed to celebrate life in a festively ceremonial way,” Ehiorobo says. “There’s a playful and celebratory quality to this afro-beat, r&b and rap infused track that sets the stage for casually dropping lines about the nature of being, love and creation. We both set out to make something that would simply move a dance floor through tone, style, and mood, but the song seems to urge the listener to consider its message of celebrating life and creation through romance.”
Sky Society has performed at Chicago’s North Coast Music Festival and opened for heavy-hitters including Sugar Hill Gang, RJD2, Star Slinger, Escort, Sweater Beats, Flamingosis, Nosaj Thing and more. From 2016 to 2020, Santos owned and operated his own record shop and small music venue called Moira Lazarus in Lancaster, PA. After four years Santos outgrew the space, and has since focused on launching his own label Higher Frequency Recordings as a platform for himself and others to press quality music on vinyl, passing the torch and preserving the culture.
ABOUT SKY SOCIETY
Sky Society, the vessel guided by DJ/Producer Juany Santos, was born in New York, Queens. Santos spent most of his time growing up visiting family throughout all the boroughs.
At an early age Santos was impacted by the music being played on the radio: Hot 97, La Mega 97.9 & 103.5 KTU. Hip-Hop, R&B, Freestyle, Merengue, Salsa, Bachata, Disco, Funk, Soul, Pop, Alternative were amongst his early influences as a child. Santos started learning how to beatmatch & mix by the age of 12 and was notorious for MCing on the mixes that his father was making for clients & family members. His father used to take him along to some of his gigs and Santos remembers scooping record promos and beat instrumentals while making his runs. That led to Santos chopping up samples and making mixtapes of his own when he was teenager, later fueling the passion for learning more about music theory and sharpening his production skills. Mastering how to play the room in front of crowds both big and small, honing in on his signature sound through the music that he loves making and where he pulls his inspiration from.
From 2016 to 2020, Santos owned and operated his own record shop and small music venue called Moira Lazarus in Lancaster, PA. Living in Chicago at the time, Santos traveled back and forth every other week between gigs, building the business, and raising his 3 year old daughter. After 4 years Santos outgrew the space and since then has been focusing on launching his own label Higher Frequency Recordings as a platform for himself and others to press quality music on vinyl, passing the torch and preserving the culture.
Santos has performed as Sky Society at North Coast Music Festival in Chicago in 2015, 2016 and 2017, and has been touring the U.S. since 2018. In 2019, Santos was the Featured Artist for Full Moon Gathering at Alex & Allyson Grey's Museum "Chapel of Sacred Mirrors," and in 2020 played Bangkok Block Party in Thailand, as well as Soap Seoul in South Korea. Santos launched his own Weekly Radio Show in 2021 via Crate Digs in London.
